Cabbage casserole

Here’s a flavorful recipe for cabbage casserole:

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium head of cabbage, chopped
  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey (optional)
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cups cooked rice (white or brown)
  • 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes (with or without herbs)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (optional, for topping)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Sauté the Meat and Vegetables: In a large skillet, cook the ground beef or turkey over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until softened.

  3. Prepare the Cabbage: In a large pot, steam or boil the chopped cabbage until just tender, about 5-7 minutes. Drain well.

  4. Combine Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked rice, diced tomatoes, cream of mushroom soup, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Add the cooked meat and sautéed onion, and mix well.

  5. Layer in Casserole Dish: In a greased casserole dish, layer half of the cabbage, followed by half of the meat mixture. Repeat the layers, ending with the meat mixture on top.

  6. Add Cheese and Topping: Sprinkle the shredded cheese over the top. If using, mix breadcrumbs with a little melted butter and sprinkle over the cheese for added crunch.

  7. Bake: Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  8. Serve: Let it cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your delicious cabbage casserole!
